May 16, 2009A Message From David Fishof & Camp Testimonials
Thank you to everybody who attended and contributed to the Hollywood camp! From the start, the Hollywood camp was spectacular. The first day of camp kicked off with a party at the Gibson Showroom with special guest Mark Farner! Mark performed with our counselors at the opening night party and put on one hell of a show! The camp only got better as the week progressed with special guests including Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Todd Rundgren and Guns 'n' Roses' Duff McKagan. Thank you to all of our guest stars for jamming with every single camper band!
The week culminated in a grand finale live performance at The Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip. Steven Tyler was so impressed with our camper bands that he stopped by the Whisky to lend his support to campers! I would like to thank all of our camp participants, counselors, special guests and staff for a memorable and inspiring five days.
WOW! That's all I can say. I hope to see you all at the next camp which we will be announcing shortly. We have some very exciting plans in the works! Till then... ROCK ON! - David Fishof
"I participated in last week's camp. Thank you so much for putting on such a spectacular event! Slim Jim was the best counselor I could have asked for, and I truly had the time of my life. I'll definitely be back!" - Tom R., Drummer
"Where do I start? All the nervousness was waiting to get there and then it all went away as I worked with Bruce Kulick on our songs. To drum and sing for Steven Tyler and gain his approval was unbelievable!! But the "Heaven" moment that has been dreamt since 1971 was drumming and singing with Mark Farner!! He turned the microphone over to me to sing Closer To Home! All the Rock Star counselors were great to work with and very supportive. As I told you face to face, you have a recipe that promotes the best in part time musicians and I hope you keep this going for years to come. A return trip will not be that far away I predict! WOW!" - Greg D., Drummer
"Please know how grateful I am for the time with my band, and being on stage was indescribable. I will never be able to find the words to properly thank you." - Scott H.
"All of the counselors were fantastic and certainly were not "caught up" in their own celebrity. Your staff was exceptional, warm and very accommodating. I hadn't picked up my electric guitar in over 10 years and had only fiddled around with my acoustic once every few months. But after this week, I feel like music is flowing through my veins again like a Keith Richards transfusion. Thank you for creating an experience that I will never forget." - Glenn M, guitarist
"To see the transformation of our diverse group of folks into a "band" was amazing. I think back to your initial comments about how the real intention of the camp was to have fun and to create new bonds between people. How true that became." - Dave K., guitarist
"Just a quick note to tell you again what an incredible event you made my 60th birthday on Sunday. The camp was all I expected and so much more." - David S., drummer

Camp Blog: Day 5
"For those of you reading my blog, I am sure you all realize how much fun we are having, but also you all are aware of all the work we are doing rehearsing our songs. That is if you can call playing music work of course! But all the camper bands are feeling competitive and hungry to be great at the big last night event, on stage at the famous Whiskey A Go Go in West Hollywood.
Sunday started with rehearsals once again. My band was eager to run through what was decided as the three songs we would perform. We were pleased with our progress, and even though Ally, one of our singers overslept from her night on the Sunset Strip, we forged on with the help of our tour manager Leslie. We were asked to head over to the El Portal Theatre around noon, for our Q and A with Todd Rundgren. It was an honor to be asked to interview him for the campers as David Fishof realized I had known much of his long and successful career.
Todd discussed the music biz, from his career as a solo artist, band member, and hit record producer as he fielded questions from the audience. Todd was very insightful and extremely articulate with his knowledge of how to balance being true to your music as an artist and making it work in the music business. I know the campers learned as Todd is an iconic talent in rock, as he has not only written some amazing songs, he has produced some huge albums in his career as well."

Barry Manilow stopped by back stage to say hello to the Monster Circus group before our second night at the Las Vegas Hilton. The man with more hits than you can imagine has been appearing at the Hilton for 5 years now. Barry and his band watched our first show March 19th. He was totally rocking with the Monster Circus concept of high energy rock n roll in the Hilton showroom that Elvis made famous for so many years.
He told us he loved our show, and wants this to be huge. Vegas needs some hard rock for sure when Mr. Manilow himself approves! Thank you Barry! Our first weekend was amazing at the Hilton, and thanks for everyone in Vegas making us feel special.

March 20, 2009KISS Expo Energizes Indy
"Music is a big part of people's lives, and while some are content to throw a CD into a player or hit their favorite playlist on their iPod, fans of the band KISS have a different kind of escape - the KISS Convention. On March 15th over 500 KISS fans filled the Holiday Inn Indianapolis East for the 2009 Indy KISS Expo.
Fans of all ages came to pick up the latest tour gear, grab a t-shirt or ten, find that elusive LP or CD, listen to a KISS tribute band (Mr. Speed was the choice at this event), and mix and mingle with other KISS fans. The band is currently in the studio recording brand new tracks for the first time since their 1998 release Psycho Circus. There was an energy level at this show that showed the band is still going strong 35 years after their first album hit stores. Perhaps it is the excitement about a new record or the fact that the band is soon to embark upon one of their explosive tours. Whatever the case, fans came out of the woodwork for this particular event.
The fans were treated to a lot of activities that were new to the KISS Convention scene. First, former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick was there to sign autographs and chat with fans. Usually Bruce would hang out, sign autographs and take some questions, but Bruce had a different agenda this time around. He brought a gallery of photos and videos from a European tour he just returned from with current KISS drummer Eric Singer and the rest of their side project - the band known as the Eric Singer Project or for short, ESP. They played several gigs and traveled all over, and Bruce showed different sites and architecture from all of the places they visited. We also got to see some behind-the-scenes, candid shots of the band just having fun.
After Bruce's presentation, KISSonline's Keith Leroux brought out some never-before-seen video footage from his personal collection to give fans a treat they will remember for a long time to come. For a non-KISS fan, it's hard to understand -- these guys have a special relationship with their fans. Many follow them around the entire planet. I've traveled many times to the oddest places just to see them perform or make a personal appearance over the past 30+ years, but my travels pale in comparison to others that will drop whatever it is they are doing and hit the road. When you make the journey with friends, between the concert experiences, and the craziness of getting from one place to another in time for the next show can be mind boggling, but in the end, it becomes an adventure you'll never forget. You'll have stories to tell your grandchildren about!
So Keith unearthed some of those adventures for the very first time, including the band surprising the guests of the Nagoya, Japan Hilton Hotel by walking around the lobby of the hotel in full makeup and costume and proceeding to take over the place -- including Paul and Tommy joining the house band for a song. These clips are priceless and Leroux promised that these clips and more will eventually be available on KISSonline.com. So stay tuned!
At this particular convention, there was also a raffle for a special prize and a special cause. PAUL STANLEY, lead singer of the legendary rock band KISS, donated an autographed signature model Washburn guitar to assist the Fishers, Indiana fourth grade Youth Travel Baseball Team - the HSE Fishers Cats! 100% of all proceeds from sales of raffle tickets will go to the team and they brought in over $2,200! Several people were purchasing $40, $50 or $100 worth of tickets to win the amazing guitar, but the lucky winner was Mr. Speed drummer - Andrew Sgambati, who immediately announced that he'd promised one of his Mr. Speed band mates that he'd give it to him if he won. A stunned audience watched Andrew pass the guitar over with a smile! By then end of the night, people were still packed into the hall as tribute band Mr. Speed played a set of lesser-heard KISS favorites.
The $20 fee to attend a KISS expo and enjoy a day of non-stop fun is worth every penny. For me, it was great to catch up with my friends -- my extended family, if you will. Many of us share a common mindset that stretches far beyond KISS, but our dedication to the band is what brought us all together. Those moments where our families get together (after all these years, many of us with a young crop of KISS Kids in tow!) share stories and catch up with one another are priceless.
Those are the moments that KISS fans crave and the 2009 Indianapolis Expo delivered on all counts." -- Doug Cataldo via KISSonline.com

January 16, 2009NAMM: Ex-Kiss Guitarist Bruce Kulick Tunes Up His Mac For New CD
Guitarist Bruce Kulick gained worldwide notoriety as the lead guitar player for Kiss. Since leaving the band Kulick launched a successful solo career and for his third CD he is tuning up his guitars and his Macs. Kulick said he began working on the as yet untitled third CD back in 2004 and started laying down tracks last January. While writing the songs, he said iTunes became his collection of ideas, holding the music and vocals and other clips that he may use for the CD.
While Kiss may be Kulick's most well known gig, he was also a member of Meat Loaf's touring band on the Bat Out Of Hell show in 1977. After that gig he formed a band called Blackjack with an aspiring singer named Michael Bolton. Kulick was even considering joining Billy Squier's band after playing on his debut album. The job with Squier was shelved after receiving the offer to join Kiss, where he played for twelve years.
Kulick said he has used a PC in the past, but not for his music creation in the last few years. "I'm glad I understand the PC, but wow, what a difference there is in using the Mac," Kulick told Macworld. Since using the Mac for his music creation, Kulick said that he now uses it for everything in his life. "I'm such a converted freak, I talk to people on the plane about the Mac," said Kulick.
There is no release date set for his third CD, but Kulick keeps a blog updated regularly on his Web site with the latest information, pictures and videos. As for his recording, he'll be sticking with a Mac. "I'll never go back. To me, it's a Mac world," said Kulick. -- Jim Dalrymple, Macworld.com
