BRUCE KULICK WITH BOOTCAMP
Review & Photos by Phil Hunt
Bruce Kulick was in Dallas, Texas Sunday, August 15th to join local Dallas Texas band BOOTCAMP on stage. Bruce, who last year joined the band in the studio to play on a track called "Rise and Shine," was invited to play a show that was broadcast live on 97.1 KEGL, the Eagle radio station.
Bruce made an in studio appearance at the radio station and spoke of many topics, as well as playing tracks from his days in KISS, live tracks from UNION and also ESP. Bruce told fans that he has been hard at work on the new UNION album, which has now been pushed back to a January release. He also stated that he has been doing some recording for a solo record that he hopes to have out sometime next year. Bruce let fans know that he has just finished mastering the new project from Eric Carr called "ERIC CARR'S ROCKOLOGY, " and that the release will be out in September. He spoke of a song he wrote and recorded that is called "Dear Friend" about his friendship with Eric Carr. He said that whenever he thinks about Eric or hears the song it breaks him up as it's a sad song about a friend that he misses to this day.
Bruce also touched on rumors that he wanted to deny. Bruce stated that he and Eric Singer are still friends with Gene and Paul, and also stated that although they (KISS) are doing one more tour in makeup likely to be called the Farewell Tour that he and Eric Singer have NOT been asked to join KISS after that tour. He also stated that ESP bandmate Karl Cochran will probally join Ace Frehley next year on Ace's solo band project. Bruce left the radio station after an hour long show.
He then went to the Curtain Club for the soundcheck and hung out with the band and friends. We watched from the side of the stage while BOOTCAMP put on a great show. The band was tight and had a great sound to them, accompanied by backup singers and a set that rocked the Curtain Club. They are really a great band live. Bruce returned backstage to get his signature series ESP guitar, and then returned to the side of the stage before being introduced as the KISS guitarist to play longer than Ace, Vinnie and Mark St. John all combined. Bruce joined the band onstage to perform the BOOTCAMP song that he played on, "Rise and Shine." They sounded really great and Bruce did a great solo for the tune. After the song Bruce took the microphone and told everyone how much he loved playing in Dallas as the fans have always been nice to him there and he would be back again soon.
He then said the band asked him what KISS song he wanted to play with them and when he replied one of his favorites was "Nothing To Lose" and the band kicked in. The song was amazing live and went over well with the crowd, who sang along with Bruce and BOOTCAMP, yelling the chorus loud when prompted by Bruce and the band. Bruce once again did an awesome guitar solo and that ended the show. Bruce thanked everyone for coming to see him and BOOTCAMP and left the stage.
Bruce hung out with the fans, taking pictures with them and signing copies of everything from BOOTCAMP cd's to UNION, KISS, and ESP items. He spent hours with the fans and hungout and met everyone in the club. Overall a fun night was had by all.
